Scansar and Spotlight Imaging Operation Study for Sar Satellite Mission

چکیده
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has been widely used for remotely sensed on Earth for decades. The advantages of SAR are to provide all weather and all day capability imagery and can be complemented with optical images. In considerations of the applications of SAR, user needs, mission definitions and critical technology preparations, a development of the X-band SAR program was planned and enforced from 2015 to 2018. The goal of the program is to develop a prototype SAR payload, including electronic units, high power amplifier (HPA) modules and high-gain multibeam antenna. This prototype shall present the technology readiness for NSPO (National Space Organization) future SAR small/microsatellite mission. So far, the preliminary assessment based on the designed subsystems and components shows that signal, power amplifiers, power supply, antenna gain pattern, data sampling, compression, recording and downlink system can meet the requirements of Stripmap imaging mode. However, ScanSAR and Spotlight modes are also necessary in order to achieve the goals for the wider swath and high resolution respectively for broader applications. In this study, the imaging operations and corresponding design parameters of the ScanSAR and Spotlight modes are presented. Additional system requirements respect to Stripmap operation are also analyzed to current SAR payload design and specifications.

The TerraSAR-X Payload Ground Segment: Pre-Launch Status and Performance
TerraSAR-X, the first national German radar satellite, is scheduled for launch in 2006. It carries an X-band highresolution synthetic aperture radar instrument featuring imaging modes like StripMap, ScanSAR and, particularly, SpotLight in a variety of different polarization modes [1] [2]. Thus the TerraSAR-X mission will provide both the scientific [3] and commercial [4] user community with a v...
متن کاملScansar Image Quality Enhancement Using Fitted-geometry Doppler Surface
Most of currently operational Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites include the Scanning SAR (ScanSAR) mode for extended remote sensing applications. The extended swath provided by the ScanSAR mode can make up for the disadvantage of normal satellite SAR operation, such as limited coverage areas and short revisiting times. Therefore the ScanSAR mode is desired, especially when reduced resol...

متن کاملA Global Performance Assessment Approach for the TerraSAR-X Staring Spotlight and Wide ScanSAR Modes
For the TerraSAR-X mission two new modes have been implemented and are operational since autumn 2013. One is a high azimuth resolution Staring Spotlight mode and the other is a wide ScanSAR mode with doubled ground range coverage compared to the nominal TerraSAR-X ScanSAR. This paper gives an overview about SAR performance analyses conducted during the mode design and implementation phases and ...
متن کاملFa-scansar: Full Aperture Scanning Pulse by Pulse for the Nearspace Slow-moving Platform Borne Sar
Because the nearspace slow-moving platform borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can realize high resolution imaging using low pulse repetition frequency (PRF), a full-aperture ScanSAR (FA-ScanSAR) operation, which switches the range beam pulse by pulse, was proposed for wide swath imaging. This operation separates the wide swath into several sub-swaths, and each of which can be illuminated by a...
